Press Release Golf Invite 2012

The 4th Annual Golf Scramble Tournament for the Boys and Girls Club of Naperville will be held on Monday, August 26th at Tamarack Golf Club, 24032 Royal Worthington Drive, Naperville.  Registration begins at 11:00 a.m.  The tournament is a continuation of the money raising efforts to start a program called Power Hour in the Naperville area.  The Boys and Girls Club Power Hour is a proven approach to helping at risk youth, by offering homework support, tutoring and mentoring by caring adults.

The idea to start a program started when Sherid Smith, a retired special education administrator of thirty years and a long-time Naperville resident, witnessed a widening gap in academic achievement between upper/middle class students and their at-risk peers.  She decided something was needed to help improve the academic life of youth there.

The Boys and Girls Club of America began providing services nationally in 1860 when the first Club ever was established in Hartford, Connecticut.  Since then, the national organization has grown to serve more than 4 million youth yearly in over 4,000 Boys and Girls Clubs across the country offering a safe place to learn and grow, ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals and hope and opportunity.

Your participation in this fundraiser and your donations will help to decrease academic failure, improve school attendance, improve test scores, and decrease inappropriate school behavior, thereby making the community and the schools a better place for us all.
